Some of the Dangerous Cell Phone Apps

SnapChat - Allows you to capture an image or video and make it available to a recipient for a specific time from 1-10 seconds.  After that time limit is up, the picture/video automatically "self-destructs".  While the photo message disappears form the phone after a few seconds, it does not prevent the receiver from snapping a screenshot of the photo while it is live.  SnapChat could also be a temptation for teens to use it for "sexting" because the risks of having the photo eventually making the rounds of the Internet are lower.  ***Our child was still receiving SnapChat messages even when the app icon was not showing on Smartphone (prior to this app being un-installed).

Vine - Allows users to watch and post six second videos.  While many of the videos are harmless, porn videos do pop up into the feed, exposing your children to sexually explicit material.  Inappropriate (explicit in nature) can easily be searched/accessed on this app.  Predators utilize this app to search for teens and find their location.  Then they try to connect with them via other messaging apps.

YikYak - All YikYak users are anonymous.  They don't create a profile or account, but they can post comments that are accessible to the nearest 500 people (within a 1-5 mile radius).  A psychiatrist referred to this app as the most dangerous he'd seen because it "can turn a school into a virtual chat room where everyone can post his/her comments, anonymously.  Untruthful, mean, character-assassinating short messages are immediately seen by all users in a specific geographic area."  This app is causing problems in schools with students maliciously slandering teacher, staff and other students.

Kik - A free app-based alternative texting service that allows texts/pictures to be sent without being logged in the phone history.  This app makes it easier for your child to talk to strangers without your knowledge since it bypasses the wireless providers's short message services (SMS).  Children also think they can "sext" without parents finding out.  In addition, strangers can send your child a "friend request".

Whisper - This app allows you to post secrets anonymously and also allows you to chat with other users in your geographic area.  Many children are drawn to communicating with strangers, feeling that their secrets are safer with them than with their friends.  This app is a perfect tool for ill-intentioned strangers looking to connect with young people because it allows you to exchange messages with people nearest to you (geographically).

Poof - Hides other apps on your phone.  You select which apps you would like to hide and their icons will no longer show up on your smartphone screen.  If children have apps that they want to keep hidden from parents, all they have to do is download this app and "poof", their screen is clear of any questionable apps.

Recipes - Meals in a Bag: Southernplate.com

Chicken and Wild Rice Casserole ~Bags To Dishes~

Ingredients
• 1 box Long Grain Wild Rice Mix (I use Uncle Ben's, which is currently 6oz))
• 10 or 12 ounce can of chicken (whichever you find first)
• 15 ounce can green beans
• 10 ounce can cream of mushroom soup (fat free is fine)
• 1 teaspoon onion powder, optional
• ó cup sliced almonds

Instructions
Assemble all canned goods in a large zipper seal bag along with a printed copy of
these instructions. If using onion powder, measure out into a zipper seal bag and
include that with canned goods.
1
To make:
1 Drain chicken and beans. Cook rice according to package directions in pot big enough to
mix casserole up in (no sense in dirtying up more dishes!).
2 Once rice is cooked, stir in all other ingredients until well combined. Spoon into pie plate
or casserole dish.
3 Bake at 350 for 20-30 minutes, or until heated through and bubbly. Serve warm.

Taco Soup – Bags To Dishes

Ingredients
• 1 pound ground beef (frozen, dehydrated, or substitute 1 can black
beans that have been rinsed)
• 1 tablespoon onion powder
• 2 cans kidney beans
• 1 can corn
• 15 ounce can Ro-Tel
• 15 ounce can Tomato Sauce
• 3 Tablespoons Taco Seasoning Mix (or 1 packet)
• 3 Tablespoons Ranch Dressing Mix (or 1 packet)
• 1+1/2 cups water

Instructions
To assemble: Measure out all spices and seasonings and place in
small zipper seal bag. Place bag in 2 gallon zipper seal bag along
with all other ingredients, except water. Include printed copy of this
recipe.
1
To make:
1 Open all cans but do not drain, with the exception of black beans, if
using. Black beans should be drained and rinsed. Dump all ingredients
into a medium pot. Stir.
2 Bring just to a boil over medium high heat and then reduce to low and
simmer 5-10 minutes.
Serve warm, as is or with toppings of your choice such as cheese,
sour cream, tortilla chips, salsa, avocado, etc. (We just usually serve
it as it is)

Chicken Enchilada Pie ~Bags To Dishes~

Ingredients
• 5 - 8 inch flour tortillas (label with this recipe title and store in freezer)
• 2 - 10 ounce cans Enchilada sauce (I suggest mild, it is still a little spicy)
• 15 ounce can black beans
• 15 ounce can whole kernel corn
• 10-12 ounce can chicken
• 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese (label with this recipe title and put in the
freezer)

Instructions
Assemble all canned goods in a large zipper seal bag along with a printed
copy of these instructions. Measure out cheese into a zipper seal bag and
label with this recipe title. Place in freezer along with tortillas until ready
to make the meal.
1
To make
1 Drain corn and chicken. Drain and rinse black beans.
2 Lightly grease an 8 inch round cake pan with cooking spray. Stir together
1+1/2 cans of Enchilada sauce and chicken, breaking up the chicken into
smaller pieces as you do so.
3 Place one flour tortilla in bottom of pan. Spread with . chicken enchilada
sauce. Top with . black beans, . corn, and . cheese. Cover with another
flour tortilla. Repeat this process with three more tortillas. Place final tortilla
on top and pour remaining enchilada sauce over it, spreading to cover. Top
with remaining cheese.
4 Bake, uncovered, at 350 for 35-40 minutes, or until bubbly. Allow to sit for a
few minutes before cutting and serving.
*One of the things about groceries nowadays that keeps us hopping is
that manufacturers keep changing the sizes of cans in order to cut costs.
If your can of vegetables, sauce, or chicken is an ounce or two (or three)
off, don't sweat it. It'll still work out just fine in this recipe.

Sausage Tortellini Soup

Our Best Bites
3 links Italian sausage
4 cloves pressed garlic
1 onion, diced
½ c. water
2 15-oz. cans chicken broth
½ c. apple cider (don’t leave this out! I did once and it wasn’t the same…)
1 16-oz. can diced tomatoes
1 8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 c. sliced carrots
1 tsp. dried basil
1 tsp. dried oregano
2 medium zucchini, grated (great way to use your food processor if you have one)
2 tablespoons dried parsley
8-10 oz. package cheese tortellini (check the freezer section of your grocery store; if you can find it there, it will almost always be way cheaper than fresh tortellini. Also, Barilla makes a great dry cheese tortellini)
2 Tbsp. dried parsley (yes, that’s two tablespoons)
If you’re using link sausage, remove the casings and crumble into a large soup pot. To remove the casings, you can use a sharp knife to cut a slit down one side of the sausage and then peel back the casing.
Chop onion and add to pot with garlic and a drizzle of olive oil. Continue cooking until onions are translucent and your sausage is cooked. Your house will smell heavenly.
Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, cider, water, chicken broth, carrots, oregano, and basil. Cover and simmer for 1/2 hour. Add parsley and zucchini and simmer for another 15 minutes or so. Add the tortellini and cook until tender, and then serve with bread and freshly-grated Parmesan.

Armed with Righteouness - Conference 2014

We are so excited for our upcoming Women's Conference. We will be addressing how to arm yourself with righteousness, and have a variety of speakers talking on how to arm yourself, physically and spiritually. Lunch will be catered, so no assignments there, but we thought we would have a little fun and have a dessert contest for anyone to enter that was interested.

Here are some of those guidelines...
Make sure it's something that you created, homeade. Submissions will be judged by the sister missionaries that are in attendance that day.

There will be the following catagories:
Best Over-All
Best Pie
Best Baked Good - cookies or cake, etc.
Creamiest
Choc-olot-iest
Fruitiest
Most Creative
Best in Show (presentation wise)

And we may add another catagory in the next few weeks. We are just wanting sisters to share their favorite sweet treat, with recipes, if you dare!

Can't wait to see you there!
